Norton and Avast left the Russians vulnerable to viruses, trojans, and ransomware

Norton and Avast left the Russians vulnerable to viruses, trojans, and ransomware

Avast and Norton have been left by Russian customers. Belarus was also left by Avast. This was explained by the companies disagreeing with Russia’s special operation in LPR and DPR. They followed the lead of ESET antivirus, which had suspended its work in Russia and Belarus just a few days before.

ESET follows the example of ESET

Avast, a Russian anti-virus software developer, has announced the suspension in Russia of its products. They disguise behind the conflict between Russia & Ukraine, like other foreign companies that have fled Russia.

Avast and Norton will both be leaving the market. This will affect not only their customers but also those who have purchased their antivirus products. Users report that they cannot update their Norton software.

NortonLifeLock, which developed Norton antivirus software, stated in a statement that “Due to recent developments and in accordance to export control regulations, we cannot currently accept new orders or offer technical support.”

Avast representatives stated on their blog that they plan to pay wages to Russian employees. Avast doesn’t say how long she will continue this and how many people she employs in Russia.

Russians can easily switch to anti-virus solutions at home without any hassle

Avast has ceased selling any products in Russia and Belarus. Marketing operations have been stopped. Avast claims that the company has been in Russia for over 20 years.

NortonLifeLock holds the largest share of global antivirus solutions on Windows PCs. Statista.com reported that she held a 13.16% stake in the company as of May 2020. Avast was second with 12.69%.

A similar decision was made just a few days before Norton and Avast left Russia. It was for the exact same reasons. Accepted ESET company. However, there are still many domestic antiviruses in the country.

Unity of antiviruses

Although Avast and Norton may appear to be competitors at first glance, this hasn’t been true for a while. Although companies used to fight for users in the past, they now work together.

CNews reported that Avast was acquired by NortonLifeLock in mid-August 2021. It cost $8.6 billion to acquire. Avast was dissolved as an independent company under the terms of the deal that was first announced July 2021.

A small loss

Russians have no protection against malware after Norton and Avast left Russia. First, pirated software created by foreign companies in support of anti-Russian sanctions could still be legalized.

Russian domestic developers don’t leave

A second factor is that Russian anti-virus systems can be used to replace Avast or Norton. Kaspersky Lab and Doctor Web, for example, have such systems. Kaspersky Lab was already subject to international sanctions.

Unscrupulous developers

Avast, Norton and others have been involved in a number of scandals. Avast was convicted of selling user data in the early 2020. She shared her data with large corporations like IBM, Google and Microsoft in exchange for money. This business was then put on stream. His Avast was led by his “daughter Jumpshot”. Buyers were given a variety of information. Avast made millions, but it is unknown how much.

The Norton 360 antivirus was prominently featured in January 2022. CNews reported that the Norton 360 antivirus was secretly mining cryptocurrency using the Norton Cryptominer embedded into it. It ran in the background, and could not be shut off.

Ukraine is not abandoned by anyone

Avast decided to help the Ukrainian people after it left the Russians, Belarusians and Belarusians without any anti-virus protection. This company did not leave the country and allowed Ukrainians to access its products for free.

“In Ukraine, we maintain and expand our product offerings. Paid users get a free renewal of their licenses. Users of our free products can now also receive our premium products for free,” reads a statement posted on Avast’s official website.
