Some games are so beautiful that you will fall in love with them right away. The tenderness of Gris in watercolor, The Artful Escape’s riot of color, and the comfort of Tunic. Trek to Yomi is also available from this number. However, the black-and white samurai action following Ghost of Tsushima doesn’t look as fresh because the PlayStation exclusive already featured such a filter. If he changes colors, then Flying Wild Hog’s Poles made him an integral part their novelty. They attempted to recreate the Akira Kurosawa films about samurai, which forever entered cinema history.
⇡#Style above all else
This low-color palette was not intended to make Trek to Yomi stand out. It is an artistic technique without which Trek would never have been possible. The filmography was completely rewritten by the authors. They also paid particular attention to camera work, as the camera shows the action from angles that are not banal. There are many memorable episodes. I’m going to be taking screenshots every day, for both myself and others.
Do not talk to the main characters like that.
The plot is also mediocre. We have seen the story of a student trying to revenge his teacher a hundred times. These supernatural elements, such as ghosts and infected behaving like zombies are not saving either. The story is not compelling and you don’t want the plot to twist, but rather to discover other interesting scenes.
The gameplay in Trek to Yomi cannot be praised. The action scenes are a kind of beat ’em, but instead fists, you use a katana. The game also allows you to move freely outside of battles. However, you will still be in the same room.

Fighting always takes place from the side
It’s worth exploring the surrounding environment. First, there are health and stamina enhancements, but they are often hidden in areas that can be accessed by an optional group. You can also find collectibles but they are difficult to open. You can also shorten the journey to the next story, or activate a trap that will allow you to battle your opponent face to face. It’s possible to damage a dam, drop something from above, or destroy a bridge. Although it doesn’t save you much time and isn’t necessary, it looks fantastic.
⇡#The hard way of the Samurai
The game doesn’t tell you which path will take you to the next episode. This is because the game doesn’t give you any information. Contrary to the visual style of the game, this does not appear as an intentional decision. It looks more like a flaw. This is a common misunderstanding that can lead to confusion. You don’t unlock new skills in your skill tree. Instead, they are occasionally given to you in the corner, showing combinations. However, they are not mandatory if you have been using the most basic combination of strikes up to now.

Not everyone instantly recognizes their hero.
It is possible to complete almost any game by simply doing the same thing, parrying blows and counterattacking. This is how ordinary enemies, as well as their armored counterparts, archers, ghosts, or infected, are defeated. The differences between enemies are insignificant. It doesn’t really matter if an opponent is armed only with a spear or a knife, as all attacks can still be parried. Only the bosses will be more active but they won’t have any exciting duel.
This makes the gameplay and visual design clash too much. A luxurious graphic style is on one side of this scale, which is permanently imprinted in the memory. It’s like The Artist (2011) – would an Oscar be given if such a movie was released every day? No. It’s all here: black and White palette, authentic effects from the old film, transitions between scenes, amazing camera work – it’s all exceptional and high quality. On the other hand, the game’s gameplay is mediocre or even fatal. It is so unattractive that you want to skip the next scene.

This game could be a great one!
However, it is hard to imagine how this gameplay could possibly be fixed. As we know, receptions do not have to be used. It is not the simplicity of parries that is important, but also the way enemies respond to normal attacks. They do not seem stunned and will continue to torment and torture you. You need to press three or four buttons consecutively to complete the combination. As opponents only attack one opponent at a given time, there is no danger. Once he is dead, the second one will attack. The gameplay was a mess in Trek to Yomi.
***
Trek to Yomi’s developers thought all this would help the game stand out from the crowd. The game’s flaws are not covered by the picture. It’s difficult to ignore them when it comes to enjoying the gameplay. You can enjoy aesthetic pleasure by looking at the game from outside. It’s almost like watching a Kurosawa movie, but with Japanese voices. It’s difficult to play, however.
Advantages:
- Great atmosphere, in the spirit old samurai films;
- Well-voiced characters.
Disadvantages:
- Banal plot
- primitive combat system;
- gameplay gets repetitive too quickly;
- Many game bugs

Trek to Yomi’s strength is visual design. Thanks to the combination color palette, camera settings and antique filters, almost every shot is stunning. |

It’s simple, but it sounds great. The characters are well-voiced and the music is pleasant. |
