Google had made Hangouts unavailable for users of Workspace’s collaboration service. They invited them to change to a modern version of Google Chat. It is time to do the exact same thing for all users of this service. In the near future, it will cease working.
Hangouts was one of the most used messaging services in the past. This is evident by its 5 billion downloads. But, competition has increased and the demand has dropped in recent years. Google abandoned the development of the messenger and switched to a more modern Chat. Chat should now have the ability to import messages and contacts from Hangouts users, making the transition to Messenger as seamless as possible. Users will automatically be redirected to Chat when they attempt to use Hangouts starting November 1.
Not all users may be covered by the automatic transfer from Hangouts of chats. The developers recommend using Google Takeout. Users of the platform could lose access to certain messages if the platform ceases to exist next January. Google has repeatedly warned of the imminent end to Hangouts. However, many users have likely already moved their messages or contacts to Chat.
