Financial authorities in the Bahamas have begun an investigation into cryptocurrency exchange FTX. The exchange declared bankruptcy last Wednesday.

On Sunday morning, the Royal Bahamas Police Force released a statement saying: “Following the collapse of FTX Worldwide and the provisional liquidation of FTX Digital Markets Ltd., a team of financial investigators from the Financial Crimes Investigation is working alongside the Securities to investigate whether there is criminal conduct.”
In September 2011, FTX moved its headquarters to the Bahamas from Hong Kong. Bankman-Fried claimed that the Caribbean had clearer taxes than the Asian city, and was a better place to do businesses.
Bankman-Fried, who is believed to be in the Bahamas along with 10 of his friends or colleagues, told Reuters he was still there. This refutes speculation that he boarded the plane for Argentina. The Bahamas Police interrogated him on Saturday.
The Bahamas welcomed cryptocurrency business and became one of five countries to introduce its digital currency in 2020. It is a digital version the dollar.
