Qualcomm Technologies unveiled the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 mobile platform as part of its annual Snapdragon Summit 2022. This processor will power flagship smartphones made by various manufacturers including ASUS and Honor, iQOO Motorola, OPPO Sony, Xiaomi, and OPPO.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 features an octacore CPU with three core clusters. Kryo Prime’s most powerful core clocks at 3.2 GHz. Four powerful cores are next in seniority with a frequency frequency of 2.8 GHz. The last three cores are energy-efficient with a frequency frequency of 2.0 GHz. Notably, the predecessor had three cores that were powerful and four efficient in energy efficiency within the first two clusters. Qualcomm claims that the new CPU is 35% faster than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 predecessor CPU and 40% more efficient.
The novelty is also equipped with an advanced Hexagon AI processor, which, among other things, will allow smartphones on Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 to better cope with online translation into different languages and the perception of voice commands. According to the manufacturer, the AI subsystem of the new platform provides 4.35 times (!) It has a higher performance than its predecessor. Due to its signal processor, the presented platform is compatible with the 200-megapixel Samsung ISOCELL HP3 sensors, which have been specifically optimized for this processor. AI supports the automatic correction of flaws within photos and videos.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 supports the AV1 codec and can play 8K HDR video at 60 frames/second. However, it will only be able to shoot in 8K at 30fps. The updated graphics accelerator Adreno offers 25% better performance than Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. TSMC will produce single-chip Snapdragon 8 Generation 2 platforms by using 4 nm process technology.
The most advanced mobile platform that supports fifth-generation (5G) communication networks is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. The Snapdragon X705G modem provides 5G network work (data download speed is up to 10Gb/s, upload speed – up to 3.5Gb/s). FastConnect 7800 technology has been added to the development kit. It will enable Wi-Fi 7 connectivity, with minimal latency at speeds up of 5.8 Gbps and minimal latency.
