Chiphell’s Chinese forum user Chiphell shared a photo of the AD103-301 GPU that will be used to make the GeForce GTX 4080 cards. As reported previously, the new chip reduces technical requirements for printed circuit boards. This will help lower production costs when assembling video card.
According to the source AD103301 “has been in service for a long period of time.” According to reports, the new chip includes a voltage comparator that was previously attached directly to the printed circuit board. NVIDIA was capable of reducing the assembly cost of GeForceRTX 4080 videocards by $ 1. There are thousands of these cards on the marketplace, so the savings for manufacturers of graphics accelerators can be significant.
Card owners with updated GPUs need not expect to see an increase in performance. Chiphell clarified that the GeForce GTX 4080 graphics accelerators are stable and will not experience any performance changes.
GeForce GTX 4070 graphics cards are also available on the new GPUs equipped with a voltage comparator. Instead of the AD104-250 chip, they will be shipped with the AD104-251 chip. It is not yet clear if NVIDIA will make similar changes to GeForce’s flagship GeForce GTX 4090 model’s AD102-300 GPU.
