According to Deadline, Netflix is currently exploring the possibility of launching live streaming on the platform. Special issues will air on reality shows, comedy projects and other content.
Deadline reports that the live streams will serve as a convenient tool to show additional content or allow viewers to vote in different competitions. The platform can air comedy specials – it has a library of stand-up comedy performances. This year’s Is a Joke Fest was the first. The performances from the event will be posted shortly, but the audience might see them next year.
Netflix’s biggest competitor has already started to experiment with live broadcasts. This year, the Disney Plus platform showed the Oscar ceremony and promised a future show.
The need for change for Netflix is particularly acute right now, with the company’s Q1 earnings report devastating, sending the stock down 37% in just one day. The service lost 200 000 subscribers during the reporting period. In the next quarter, it may lose as many as 2 million customers. The company might also offer live broadcasts and a low-cost tariff with advertising to correct its situation.
