Windows 11 File Manager gets a new design with new features
Microsoft is about to launch an important update to File Explorer (Explorer), in support of the Windows 11 operating systems. This information was provided by WindowsCentral, a well-respected thematic resource that managed to access the internal layouts.
File Explorer is set to be refreshed in several key areas. The new design will offer a more intuitive touchscreen experience as well as improved integration with OneDrive.
A modern user interface will make the most impact on the rest of the operating systems. Microsoft will update the search field and window decoration, title bars and buttons, as well as the home button. File Explorer will feature a simpler and more intuitive design. The new interface will make tabs easier.
The most important of the functional innovations will be the redesigned homepage, which is tightly integrated with Microsoft 365. At the top there will be a ribbon of “recommended” files, which will be represented by enlarged thumbnails.
Microsoft 365 integration means that users can view email threads and comments made on files shared via the cloud with colleagues, or attached to emails. These information will be easily accessed.
The new Gallery will offer more options to view photos through the “Explorer”. An enlarged preview of the photo will appear if you hover your mouse over it. You can also add tags to organize and classify files using keywords, color labels and similar features to macOS’s Finder app.
WindowsCentral noted that if all of these plans are realized, this will be File Explorer’s most significant update since Windows 8 more than 10 years ago.
