NASA is working with NASA to fix the problem
The US Aeronautics and Space Administration has shared the most recent news about the James Webb Space Telescope. The orbital observatory is currently experiencing its second hardware failure.
Management claims that the NIRISS device (Near Infrared Imagingr and Slitless Spectrograph), experienced a communication delay which resulted in the loss of internal software. NIRISS is currently not available for scientific purposes.
NASA clarified:
NIRISS is not required for scientific observations. These scheduled scientific observations will be rescheduled at a later date. NASA and the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) are collaborating to solve the problem.
NIRISS operates in four modes, under normal conditions. You can use it as a camera to analyze the light spectrum and take high-contrast photos. There is also an option for searching for distant galaxies.
The observatory previously had issues with the mid-infrared (MIRI) instrument. This problem began in August 2022. NASA discovered the reason for the failure in November. The observatory also experienced two weeks of unplanned failures in December that interrupted scientific observations. Engineers blamed the problem on a software bug in the observatory’s attitude control system. NASA stated that the James Webb was restored to normal operations on December 20, 2022.
