Microsoft is said to be working on an update to File Explorer in Windows 11 which will improve the user interface and add new functionality.
Interior mockups reveal a newly designed File Explorer header with an updated search field and new home button. File Explorer’s home page features deeper integration to Microsoft 365. This includes previews (thumbnails), which show documents shared in online meetings or peer comments.
Windows Central reported that the redesign would include a new design that is compatible with Windows 11 and integrate Microsoft 365 and OneDrive more deeply.

This interface design change was made in order to match the overall design changes to Windows 11, such as touch elements or round buttons.
Microsoft has not confirmed the plans to modify File Explorer. However, some parts of the code are already being implemented in Windows 11’s experimental builds.
