CableMod created custom cables featuring a reinforced connector in response to the GeForce-RTX 4090 meltdown scandal. However, this modification was not a panacea. According to new reviews, users’ actions still cause the breakdown.
Reddit user Published A message showing a melted connector for a custom cable. The post did not include any explanation, so we can only guess at the reason for the failure. Commentators found evidence that the victim did not secure the cable in the connector tightly enough. NVIDIA had previously identified the reason for the melting.
The nature of the plastic damage suggests that the connector was “dangled” in a video card.
CableMod support also commented on the post. Employees at the company stated that they were ready to purchase a new video card for users if their cable was damaged. However, with the exception of the “floated” plastic, the iron, according to the owner, remained operational.
